* In the welding process, you must be able to weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions while operating safety equipment and using safe work habits.
* Prior to assembly, you should lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers.
* In addition, you must examine workpieces for defects and measure them with straightedges or templates to ensure they conform to specifications.
* As a welder, you must also be able to recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools commonly used in welding trades, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.
* You will weld separately or in combination, using aluminum, stainless steel, cast iron, and other alloys.
To obtain the desired configurations and positions for welding, you may need to clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind or bolt component parts.
* Select and install torches, torch tips, filler rods, and flux according to welding chart specifications or the types and thicknesses of metals.
* Start power supplies, ignite torches, and strike arcs by touching electrodes to metals to complete circuits while welding.
* Activate and adjust gas flow and pressure by connecting and turning regulator valves to achieve desired flames.
* Other duties will be assigned as needed.
This is not a complete list of required tasks, but a guideline for daily tasks and responsibilities.
* Ability to interpret blueprints, layouts, and manufacturing methods.
* Minimum of 2 years of welding experience, with preference given to those with Tig and Mig welding experience.
* Exceptional communication skills.
* Familiarity with various hand and power tools (such as drills, grinders, and sanders) for welding setup and finishing.
* Proficiency in operating welding machines to regulate voltage and current for the proper fusion of metals.
* Ability to lift up to 100 pounds and carry up to 50 pounds.
* Strong problem-solving skills.
* Capability to stand for the full duration of work shifts.
* Experience in Flux-Core welding.
* Certification from the American Welding Society.
* High school diploma or GED (or equivalent).
