We have an immediate need for a full-time night shift Lab Technician to join our Quality department in Portland.
This is an entry-level opportunity that is supported by a team that will train you to perform in our unique environment.
What you can expect to be doing:
Performs ongoing laboratory and physical tests of dry blend batches as required to applicable standards.
Performs troubleshooting on dry blend materials to determine the cause/causes of problems and recommends corrective measures.
Take samples on the production line and test for density, color, etc.
to ensure the product meets customer specifications.
Performs ongoing color testing to ensure the product meets customer specifications.
Interacts with the extrusion department and dry-blend department to communicate daily issues and pertinent information to supervisors and other employees as needed.
Tests a variety of ingredients prior to use in the manufacturing process including resin additives, blending compounds, etc.
Understands all materials utilized in the manufacturing operation.
Understands certified materials and their use within the company.
Sets up and operates all lab equipment for performing all laboratory and physical tests required.
Performs tests on new formulas as needed.
Maintains an inventory of all supplies needed for the lab.
Completes appropriate logs and paperwork pertaining to the laboratory both manually and on the computer.
Ensures housekeeping duties are performed in the work area.
Follows all plant safety procedures in order to ensure personal safety and the safety of others.
Understands and follows all company policies, practices, and procedures.
2-week rotational 2*2*3 schedule: Sun, Wed, Thurs and Mon, Tues, Fri, Sat (36 hrs / 48 hrs)
Night-shift hours are 5:00 pm - 5:00 am
What we are looking for in our hires:
Our successful candidates are self-starters who are willing to learn!
Have a strong work ethic - dependable and demonstrate good attendance
Able to work a 12-hour shift
Our work schedule rotates every 2 weeks: 36 hours one week & 48 hours second week (schedule includes every other weekend)
Working knowledge of MS Office Word and Excel
Ability to calculate basic mathematical formulas
Able to meet the physical qualifications for this position which include:
Lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds
Standing for an extended period of time
Lift, throw, bend, squat, twist, and reach
Need to be able to read, write, and understand English
Basic understanding of biology and or chemistry is preferred but not required
Great attention to detail
Lastly, have a positive attitude and be willing to assist others when needed.
